PECOS Extractor Tool Now Available

By: Derrick Stark, CPA, CVA

In an effort to simplify the identification of physicians not enrolled in the Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (“PECOS”), we created a simple application that parses the warning information from GenResponse reports (for electronically filed claims).  The PECOS Warning Extractor (“PWE”) creates a work list in a .csv file format that can be accessed through Notepad or Excel, sorted, analyzed, and distributed to members of your staff so they can begin calling doctors and educating them on the importance of enrolling in PECOS before April 5, 2010.  For background information and talking points, see Andrea Stark’s New PECOS Edits Will Soon Result in Claim Rejections article below.

The PWE is not stunning; it will not make a programmer’s heart go pitter-patter.  We designed it to be simple to use so our clients could get their physician education initiatives off the ground quickly.  Given the implications of not getting a jump on PECOS, we are making it available to all providers without charge.

To download PWE, visit our download site at http://www.starkvistagroup.com.  A brief video tutorial on its use is posted below.  If after watching the tutorial you have any questions, please contact us at pecossupport@miravistallc.com or 803.253.8796, ext 200.
